The Bible, God’s Word, is so clear, so direct, so easy to understand. God says what He means, and He means what He says. We just need to obey His Word. Let’s think about the word “avoid.” The definition of this word is “to dodge, to duck, to sidestep, to escape, to shun, to keep away from, to stay away from.” You get the idea! There are several things that God tells us we should avoid:
1. Proverbs 4:15 “Avoid it, pass not by it, turn from it, and pass away.” The “it” in this verse refers back to verse 14 which says, “Enter not into the path of the wicked, and go not in the way of evil men.” The thing we are to avoid is the path or the way of the wicked. God says, “Don’t even think about going down the wrong path. Stay far from this road to destruction.”
2. Romans 16:17 “Now I beseech you, brethren, mark them which cause divisions and offences contrary to the doctrine which ye have learned; and avoid them.” Another thing we are to avoid are those who do not stick to the doctrines, the teachings of the Bible. Not every building that has the word “church” on the outside teaches the doctrine of the Bible. Some are teaching things “contrary” to what God’s Word says. God says, “avoid them.”
3. I Corinthians 7:2 “Nevertheless, to avoid fornication, let every man have his own wife, and let every woman have her own husband.” Thirdly, we are to avoid fornication, wrong relationships with one another. The world makes immoral living look right, when God tells us specifically to avoid it!
4. II Timothy 2:23 “But foolish and unlearned questions avoid, knowing that they do gender strifes.” Titus 3:9 “But avoid foolish questions, and genealogies, and contentions, and strivings about the law; for they are unprofitable and vain.” Last of all, we are to avoid debating God’s Word. If God said it, then that settles it. We don’t have to debate God’s Word, we just need to obey It.
Things to avoid—the wrong path, the wrong people, the wrong relationships, and the wrong arguments.

It was pre-dawn. There was a little lightening bug caught in the tall grass in our backyard. That little light caught my attention because it was dark. He was such a little light, yet he stood out in the darkness. I think we would agree that the world is dark and getting darker. What an opportunity that gives us as Christians to be a light in our dark world. Matthew 5:16 says, “Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.” Do you want to bring glory to your Heavenly Father? Let your light shine! Philippians 2:14-15 says, “Do all things without murmurings and disputings: That ye may be blameless and harmless, the sons of God, without rebuke, in the midst of a crooked and perverse nation, among whom ye shine as lights in the world;” We are in the midst of a crooked and perverse nation, but God has called us to shine as lights in the world! It is our opportunity to shine for Jesus Christ! Will you let your light shine?
